The Nest, a guaranteed income program operated by Hummingbird Indigenous Family Services (HIFS) in Washington State provides $1,250 per month in unconditional cash to 150 American Indian/Alaska Native and Pacific Islander families from pregnancy through a child’s third birthday, plus $5,000 to seed an educational savings account. The Nest is the first guaranteed income program to exclusively serve Indigenous communities in the United States. Over the next five years we will give up to 150 families $1250 no-strings-attached monthly payments to Indigenous pregnant people until their child’s third birthday.  This equates to up to $45,000 for a family participating from the birth of their child until they turn three.
