Her leadership brought forward innovative initiatives such as Vroom, making brain science accessible to parents and caregivers, and the Bezos Scholars Program, empowering young leaders in the United States and Africa. Beyond her foundation work, Jackie’s philanthropy extended to medical research and community health, reflecting her deep belief in reimagining what’s possible through learning, service, and resilience. From early learning to groundbreaking research, she turned conviction into action, leaving a lasting impact that continues to shape the field.
Leadership and Vision
Colleagues who knew Jackie well remember her as a visionary leader:
“Jackie Bezos will be remembered as the extraordinary mother, grandmother, colleague and friend that she was. She had forever connections with others. She could calm a fussy baby, listen intently to the ideas of a toddler, make up riveting stories for a school-ager, and collaborate with a team designing a new project like no one else.
Jackie will also be remembered as an extraordinary philanthropist, and that she was too. She was a visionary who could picture the future she wanted and determine how to get there—impatiently moving beyond the usual way of doing things and catapulting change.
I, however, want to talk about another side of Jackie, she was the most creative professional I’ve ever worked with. She had a way of seeing that pierced beyond deep understanding. She had a way of saying where her words became mottos, easily memorable, always inspiring. And she had a way of doing that broke the mold and created new systems and structures.”
Jackie Bezos—one of a kind. Deeply loved. Deeply missed.
Ellen Galinsky, President & Co-Founder, Families and Work Institute; Former Chief Science Officer, Bezos Family Foundation
“Ellen Galinsky introduced me to Jackie, and I was immediately impressed by Jackie’s deep and genuine curiosity about the field. She wasn’t just a lady with resources who wanted to do good. She was a real-deal warrior who made a difference in the lives of young children and all those around her.”
Jacqueline Jones, Former President and CEO, Foundation for Child Development
Jackie’s love for young children and the early childhood field was evident as soon as you met her. The contribution that Jackie and Mike Bezos made to children in the U.S. and around the world, from Vroom to other vital supports, sent an important signal that nurturing care matters during the critical early years.

Heart for Children and Families
Jackie’s commitment to children and families was evident in every interaction:
“It was not uncommon for a child to visit our offices, and when that happened Jackie would kneel down to the floor to the child’s level. The magnetism was instant—through a song, or something interesting from her purse she could engage even the most reluctant young visitor.”
Lis Stevens, Senior Program Officer, Bezos Family Foundation
“Intuitively, Jackie saw the innate potential in every child, and the value of parents and caregivers whom she lauded as ‘Brain Builders.’ Through the work of the Foundation, she became passionate about the science of early development, delighting in images of baby neurons connecting in response to a loving adult. Her investment in children and families will have a ripple effect for generations.”
Megan Wyatt, Managing Director for Early Childhood, Bezos Family Foundation
Jackie’s vision for early learning, her deep belief in the power of education, and her commitment to creating opportunities for all children are felt throughout our field.
