Highlights
WEPOWER and the Gateway Early Childhood Alliance in Missouri advocated with the St. Louis city council and secured $5.6 million in local ARPA funds to implement a new TEACH and WAGES program for the local child care workforce.
Putting in place the first Executive Director for the Gateway Early Childhood Alliance in Missouri provided some of the internal infrastructure needed to implement their vision that Black and Brown families in the St. Louis region have access to affordable, high-quality early childhood care and education, regardless of race, income, and zip code. It also helps the Alliance to build credibility and accountability for the revenue raised by a property tax increase they organized to pass in 2020 for supporting children ages 0 to 5.
