SCOTUS Rulings and What Comes Next for Immigrant Communities

United States Supreme Court Building

This Online event was held on July 1, 2026 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT

Hosted by Grantmakers Concerned With Immigrants and Refugees, co-sponsored by ECFC, The Funders Network, Connecticut Council of Philanthropy and North Carolina Network of Grantmakers.

Over the last year, federal courts have been among the most effective backstops against the Trump regime’s xenophobic policy agenda. According to Democracy Forward, the administration lost 70% of the 600 lawsuits filed against it between January 2025 – January 2026. However, when these cases eventually wind up in front of the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS), the court has disproportionately ruled in Trump’s favor—a fact unsurprising perhaps, given their previous failure to hold him to account for the attempted coup he fomented.

It is in this context that several highly consequential immigration policy decisions will be rendered by the court this June, including on “metering” (which prevents asylum seekers from entering the United States), on Temporary Protected Status (which allows hundreds of thousands of individuals to lawfully remain and work in the United States), and on birthright citizenship (enshrined by the 14th Amendment and yet challenged).

Join us for a debrief and analysis of these consequential decisions from organizational plaintiffs as well as leading advocates on the issues. In addition to unpacking the decisions, we will dig into what comes next for impacted communities and the resources needed to put effective strategies into motion.
