On this month’s state and local ECFC member huddle, we discussed place-based grantmaking strategies and what makes it successful.
- Michelle Martin, Field Coordinator, The Ford Family Foundation in Oregon shared an example of work with the Douglas County Child Care Coalition, how they work internally and with partners, and the role field coordinators and woven staff teams play in their place based work in rural communities.
- Nicole Diebold, Program Officer, C.E. And S. Foundation in Kentucky shared work they are supporting to expand local pediatricians’ availability and use of the Ages and Stages Questionnaire/developmental milestones through the Metro United Way Ages & Stages Development Screening Hub, to help providers and families connect to resources and services to help prepare kids for Kindergarten.
- Shannon Cotsoradis, Director, Policy & Strategy, Buffett Early Childhood Fund, shared an example of place-based work they support in Nebraska – Communities for Kids (C4K), created in response to community requests for assistance with shortages of high-quality early care and education programs.
