Historic Declines in Child Poverty – EC Funders Briefing
This event was held on November 18, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm EST
On November 18, 2022, ECFC was joined by researchers from Child Trends and the Rapid Assessment of Pandemic Impact on Development (RAPID) Project to unpack what data, and families themselves, tell us about poverty declines and what funders should know about families’ biggest challenges and what helps families most.
Moderator: Rebecca Gomez, Program Officer, Education Program, Heising-Simons Foundation
Discussants:
- Dana Thomson, Senior Research Scientist, Child Trends
- Philip Fisher, Professor, Graduate School of Education, Stanford University; RAPID Project Director
Our discussion built on Child Trends’ report, Lessons From a Historic Decline in Child Poverty, examining the factors contributing to the historic 59% decline in child poverty between 1993 and 2019, using the Supplemental Poverty Measure; and real experiences of families responding to RAPID surveys.
Familiarize yourself with the data/trends:
- RAPID survey reports: Families’ Biggest Challenges (August 2022); What is Helping Families Most (October 2022)
- Child Trends, Lessons From a Historic Decline in Child Poverty, examining the factors contributing to the historic 59% decline in child poverty between 1993 and 2019, using the Supplemental Poverty Measure.Â
