Don’t Look Away: Child Needs During Heightened Enforcement Actions

Sad Black child in the park.

This Online event was held on February 26, 2026 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EST

Hosted by Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees. Co-sponsored by ECFC, Children, Youth and Family Funders Roundtable, Grantmakers for Thriving Youth, Council of New Jersey Grantmakers, Blue Sky Funders Forum, and G4GC.

As our nation continues to be horrified by violent and often unlawful federal enforcement actions, the recent ICE detainment of 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos outside his home has struck a nerve in the American psyche. The psychological and emotional impact of enforcement actions against children and their families is hard to overstate, making the work of community organizations providing critical family support, information, and resources especially critical during this time of massive ethnic profiling and targeting.

In the February 26th session of the 1 in 4 Children and Families Project, we will learn from community groups around the country what sort of needs children and families have in this moment, how their organizations are responding, and what philanthropy can do to support the wellbeing of children in immigrant households.
