WHAT: People power social change. Those most affected by failing early childhood systems often make the most impactful leaders, yet developing the confidence and resilience to lead requires dedicated mentoring and time. What works? Grassroots organizers in Ohio are expanding a Child Care Leadership Lab model, in collaboration with Community Change and the Child Care for Every Family Network, to cultivate at least 250 new child care provider leaders across multiple states (CA, CO, DC, IL, LA, NM, MI, MN, NC, OH, OR, PA) to be leaders in the movement. Come to hear directly from graduates of this program and trainers sharing the lessons and experiences coming from this new approach. Leave with ideas about how to build leaders in your own community.Â
WHY:Â Expand foundation community understanding of leadership development in early childhood beyond professional development to understand how this kind of program is founded on principles of relational organizing and how it builds long term commitment to taking actions to expand the movement.
OUTCOMES:Â
- Understand what relational organizing is, how it shapes leadership development, and why it is critical to movement building.
- Learn about the program, where it has been implemented and where you want to go.
- Hear directly about the experience of going through the program.
- Build support for this type of leadership development among participants.Â
