April 30 - Welcome Reception 5:30pm-8pm:

As is our tradition, we'll conclude Day 1 with an early evening reception with heavy appetizers for those that would like to skip dinner to join us.  We’ll hear special welcome remarks from Governor Lujan Grisham! We will also be joined by hoop dancers from The Lightning Boy Foundation, a non profit organization in Northern New Mexico that provides traditional hoop dance instruction and other dance programming to youth ages two and up. Our event will take place at Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Pavillion (.2 miles from Hotel Santa Fe), 1607 Paseo de Peralta, Santa Fe, NM.  Local Attendees: No parking is allowed on Alameda (West) side of Pavilion or on Chili Line Lane. Vehicles left unattended in these areas will be cited and/or towed by the City of Santa Fe.

WEATHER:

In late April, the average high temperature for Santa Fe is 72°F and the average low is 48°F. Santa Fe is surrounded by mountains, so it’s not unusual for a 30-40 degree temperature drops at night!  Hotel banquet rooms are also usually cool, so you might want to bring a jacket or sweater to wear during the meeting in the evenings. See below for more information on dressing for comfort and weather for site visits on 5/1.

DRESS CODE:

ECFC does not have a dress code to attend meetings.  We are in favor of dressing for your own comfort, and at recent ECFC meetings, this has ranged from jeans to business casual.  All 5/1 site visits involve some amount of walking (from parking areas, on short walking tours of buildings). We are in favor of dressing for comfort and weather.

Especially for attendees going to San Felipe Pueblo on 5/1 afternoon, wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes, and you are encouraged to bring hats, jackets and umbrellas as needed for the weather that day.

Altitude:

Travelers not accustomed to altitude changes after travel may find themselves sensitive to the Santa Fe’s high altitude - approximately 7,000 feet above sea level.  Staying hydrated during your trip can help.

What to expect on 5/1 site visits:

Day 2 of our meeting will include site visits to community locations and San Felipe Pueblo Feast Day. Site visits 1 (Keres Children’s Learning Center on Cochiti Pueblo), Site Visit 2 (Kha’p’o Community School on Santa Clara Pueblo), and the San Felipe Pueblo Feast Day will involve walking (from parking areas, through Pueblos to get to sites, and from parking to San Felipe family homes/Feast Day activities).

Especially if you are attending San Felipe Pueblo Feast Day after your morning site visit:

  • San Felipe Feast Day attendees will be outside most of the time (wear comfortable shoes and clothes, and dress for the weather (bring a hat, umbrella).
  • Indoor restrooms will be limited, there will be Port-o-Pots.
  • Bring cash for vendors (they are not likely to take credit cards).
  • There are no cellphones allowed during Feast Day,(and no photos of the Pueblo Plaza and dancers.  There may be limited or no cell service.
  • Other visitor etiquette for visiting Pueblos will be provided to attendees in advance.

Dietary requests:

All requests will be well accommodated for our catered meals (4/30 breakfast, lunch and evening reception; 5/1 breakfast; and 5/2 breakfast).  Special dietary needs for Feasting Place will be accommodated. However, we can’t guarantee special requests can be met for San Felipe Pueblo Feast Day meals (lunch with host families and food vendors will be traditional foods and cannot accommodate special requests). ECFC will provide grab-and-go water and snacks before departing for site visits, but you are welcome to bring your own snacks if you are concerned with food allergies or have other dietary needs.
