A common question about cash programs is how they impact work. This memo from the Economic Security Project examines how guaranteed income affects employment by reviewing employment outcomes from over 40 cash pilots across the United States, with data from randomized controlled trials (RCTs), quasi-experimental designs, and firsthand reports from program participants. From this synthesis, we found that cash strengthens—not undermines—employment.
