2022 ECFC Annual Report: Learning, Connecting, Catalyzing

Thirty years ago, the Early Childhood Funders Collaborative (ECFC) was started by a ‘motley crew’ of children and youth grantmakers that recognized the need to convene funders who supported the unique time of life that makes up the early years.

Since then, we have learned together, seeded systemic change, elevated policy conversations and over the last few years, evolved into a strategic body pushing equity and alignment in the early learning funding space. We’ve come a long way!

In 2022, together, we reflected on the growth of our community in recent years and laid our plans for our future. Highlights include:

  • After two years of virtual meetings, we had a joyful and stimulating in-person reunion in May of 2022. We explored Equitable Engagement: How Can We Make Equity a Reality in the Early Childhood System and in Our Own Work?
  • We hired our first Chief Equity and Strategy Officer, Keami Harris, who will build on the foundation that has been laid by our Steering Committee, Racial Equity Workgroup, and ECFC staff team.
  • The Raising Child Care Fund (RCCF) is fueling the power of parents and educators in 16 states and the District of Columbia. RCCF grantees have secured seats at the table for parents and early educators, won positive changes in child care policy, and are on the precipice of sustainable funding increases in some of their states and communities.
  • Our Steering Committee also adopted a new strategic plan that galvanizes us to build a vibrant, connected field of early childhood philanthropy that acts on strongly-held equity values.

ECFC works because our members contribute their insights, energy, and their financial support. Our partners across philanthropy and the early childhood field challenge us to do our best work in support of our shared mission. We welcome your ideas, your feedback, and your active participation as we move forward together.
